Brighton Festival is an annual showcase for theatre, music, dance, performance and books, from both local and international artists.
Line-up
The music line-up includes Afrobeat!, Tony Allen, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Portico Quartet, Paul Curreri, Leafcutter John, Talvin Singh, Ian King and Alasdair Roberts, Mark Padmore and Kristian Bezuidenhout, Navarra Quartet, Heath Quartet, Icebreaker and BJ Cole performing Apollo: This is for all Mankind, Kevin Johansen, Liniers, Anouar Brahem, Steve Dugardin, Naturally 7, The Persuasions, Reggie Watts, Brighton Youth Orchestra, John Tomlinson, Richard Goode, Johann Sebastian Bach Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, Philip Glass Ensemble perform Koyaanisqatsi, Rachmaninov Vespers, Britten Sinfonia, The Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band, Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Lali Puna and Jon Hopkins join forces with electron, Anna Grevelius and Roger Vignoles, Counterpoise, Daniil Trifonov, Fidelio Piano Trio, Roberto Prosseda, Heath Quartet, Alexander Karpeyev, Elias String Quartet, Camarilla Ensemble, Finzi Quartet, Daniela Lehner and Jose Luis Gayo, and Allegri QuartetBrian Eno will be making his mark on the Brighton as the Festival's Guest Artistic Director for 2010. Visitors will have the opportunity to choose from 16 exclusives, 14 premieres, and eight Brighton Festival commissions from internationally acclaimed artists visiting the UK for the first time, as well as Brighton-based artists.
This is for all Mankind, a live soundtrack of music by Eno will be performed by Icebreaker Ensemble to the Al Reinert documentary of the Apollo space missions. This is Pure Scenius! has Eno performing with Karl Hyde, Leo Abrahams, Jon Hopkins and The Necks in three consecutive performances, altogether forming a six-hour music experience.
Throughout three weeks of entertainment the festival aims to bring great art to Brighton, and to harness the creative energy of the city to make great new art of its own.
