This festival follows the V Music Festival that takes place the preceding weekend. The Chelmsford Spectacular is a music and cultural festival which takes place annually over the August Bank Holiday Weekend in the landscaped setting of Hylands Park which has a natural sloping concert bowl with superb sightlines.
At the centre of the park is the beautiful Grade II Hylands House currently being restored by Chelmsford Borough Council. There are different performances from a variety of artists each evening. On Sunday the park hosts an all-day festival with 3 music tents featuring local and national artists, cabaret, circus and street entertainers, stalls and kids area.
The festival narrowly survived some of the worst August weather on record in 2004, the following year Chelmsford Borough Council decided to replace the event with a new programme of events.
