Bowling For SoupDownload Festival 2005 reviewWednesday 15th June 2005Bowling For Soup looked a bit out of place when looking at the band listings for todays Download which is incorporating the Ozzfest. Other bands on the bill included Anthrax, Velvet Revolver and obviously Black Sabbath. Despite the fact that they were the odd ones out, they still managed to outshine most of the other bands that were scheduled to play throughout the entire weekend. Musically they might not be as technically gifted as System Of A Down or the mighty Sabbath, but what they do bring is a touch of melodic punk pop to brighten up the day, quite literally whilst Bowling For Soup did their set the sun came out, then went back in for the rest of the day. Bowling For Soup are guaranteed to be entertaining everytime they play live as the audience never know exactly what will happen during their performance - in fact I’m not too sure that the band members know what will happen half the time. This time around we had an inflatable sheep being brought onto the stage so that Jaret (Vocalist) could insert a banana up its rectum! That’s the first time I’ve ever witnessed that at a Donington gig. The played all of the usual infectious punk rock tracks such as ‘Punk Rock 101’, and some newer material such as ‘1985’. The band seemed to enjoy being upon the big stage and the audience lapped up every minute of their set! A truly entertaining band, good music, great entertainment, one of the highlights of this years Download festival. In fact, who needs black Sabbath when you have got Bowling For Soup playing? review by Luke Seagrave |
