Garbage

Download Festival 2005 review

Wednesday 15th June 2005

Garbage made a welcome return the live scene by playing at Download. To capture the audiences attention Shirley Manson and co decided to play one of their biggest hits early on in the show ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’, which worked wonders and captivated the audience - this was starting to look like Garbage would be the highlight of the weekend. However something went wrong - I couldn’t see exactly what it was - but it was technical problem with one of the instruments, possibly the drums.

This hitch obviously gave Shirley a bit of time to fill and this is where their show started to fall apart. She started moaning and complaining which just made people leave the main arena and head towards the other stages to catch whoever was on at that time.

The technical difficulty was sorted eventually, but by that time they had lost the flow of the set and were quite literally dying on stage.

The worst thing of all is that even though they carried on with the set, it was still suffering with poor quality sound, and I can only sympathise with the band as this was going to be an awesome come back for Garbage but it went tits up. They did manage to get the problems sorted in time to hear the last tracks performed properly. ‘Only Happy When It Rains’ was a pleasure to listen to, and when things are going smoothly Garbage sound incredible live. However they left a lot of people disappointed!
