Paul Oakenfold - review by : Kenn Bracey

Glastonbury Festival 1999

Monday 5th July 1999

Other Stage, Saturday 26th June

Well....where should I start. I went to see the great one expecting a great night ahead. What did we get. Absoloute bunch of Oakenfold ARSE. He mixed in 2 tracks. His set list comprised of:

  • Chemical Brothers "Hey Boy, Hey Girl"
  • Stone Roses "Fools Gold"
  • Blur "Song 2"
  • Underworld "Born Slippy"
  • Prodigy "Firestarter"

If Oakenfolds Idea of mixing is to get an MC on the Stage to shout "Glastonbury Lets Hear You".....Natrually we'd all cheer and then he just stuck another cd on.

If he had come onto the stage at the begining and said that his music collection had been stolen then we would have forgave him for the utter diareha that he put out. I mean anyone who thinks they can headline the other stage on the Saturday and finish with "Firestarter" is completely off their head.

We quickly renamed the "Bollocks" chant at nights to "Oakenfold". To be perfectly honest Beth Orton gave a better set than him.

Oakenfold, If you see this then please let me know 2 things. 1. Why that crap set. 2. Did you feel obliged to hand back in your appearance fee, as we think you should of.
