The Damned

Guilfest 2004 review

Thursday 22nd July 2004

Some bands grow old, but Captain Sensible and the boys, despite over two decades are still bang on. There may be more bald heads in the audience than punk hair cuts but they still have the fire and passion and clearly love playing to an audience.

The Damned

Mr Sensible entertains us on guitar, mentioning he wore his old McShite T-shirt only to be heartbroken to discover that they are selling them at a stall at the back and it breaks the ice, the audience are delighted that they’ve been taking in the festival too and not just loitering backstage.

The Damned

It may be pub punk nostalgia but it’s all great, my personal highlight being Fell in Love with a Video Nasty, which when they played it live during an episode of The Young Ones, instantly converted me to a Damned fan. But they play all the hits from Eloise to Love Song and they do it with cabaret style.

The Damned

At least, you can rest assured The Damned are growing old disgracefully! Better yet I meet an old friend not seen in fifteen years and where better to meet again than in front of The Damned!
