Late afternoon rain saw the ever-reliable Lamb gather swelling crowds in the Live Arena at 2004’s We Love… Homelands, as the firm festival favourites (who are chart toppers in Portugal!) entertained the audience with a selection of tracks mostly chosen from the earlier 3 of the band’s 4 albums.
Andy Barlow kicks off the set well with some bouncy electric double bass and madcap trumpet action from Kevin Daley, but the audience really begin to respond as Lou Rhodes bounds onstage in one of her trademark ball gowns to deliver a rockier than usual “Little Things” followed by an energetic rendition of “Gold”.
The Homelands crowd greet ad-man’s favourite “Gabriel” with serious applause, while “In Your Hands” is also a highlight. Lou and Andy keep the audience entertained with their usual bright and engaging presence. The sure-fire electro crowd-pleaser “Ear Parcel” gets the enthused crowd jumping; Lou Rhodes taking up drums, giving her powerful voice a well-earned break for a track, before a song from the band’s latest album, Between Darkness and Light, has the audience whooping.
The band change the mood with the penultimate track of their set: the atmospheric classic “Gorecki.” The Homelands crowd watch a band on excellent form as the rain begins to hammer down on the rest of the festival. Spirits are not dampened in the now-packed Live Arena as Lamb end an excellent set with a great finale: “One” from 2001’s What Sound album. Andy Barlow crowd-surfs over the dancing throng before the band end their set and leave the stage to triumphant applause.
