HowTheLightGetsIn is an annual philosophy and music festival offering over a hundred and fifty events, plus live performances. The event, now in its fourth year, is held at Hay-on-Wye in Powys, Wales from Thursday 31st May to Sunday 10th June 2012.

Line-up

The line-up will include philosophers, writers, comedians, academics, and politicians as well as musicians.

Acts include King Charles, Camille O'Sullivan, Kites, Cosmo Jarvis, Max and Ivan are… Con Artists, Man Like Me, Anne Pigalle, Shona Foster, Public Service Broadcasting, Pete Lawrence (DJ Set), Kish Mauve, Skinny Lister, Mike Wozniak, Emmy the Great, David J Roch, Tomos Lewis, Plaster of Paris, Sara Pascoe, Kieron Johnson, Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard, yoB, Yes Sir Boss, Jay Foreman, Iszi Lawrence, and The Chapman Family.

Plus guests include Michael Eavis, John Sinclair, Howard Marks, James Lovelock, Kevin Warwick, Tim Crane, Angela Saini, Luciano Floridi, Lewis Wolport, Polly Higgins, Crispin Tickell, Nigel Lawson, Bjorn Lomborg, Galen Strawson, Hilary Lawson, Nicholas Humphrey, James Giordano, Christopher Hamilton, Havi Carel, Meghnad Desai, Stephen King, Giles Fraser, Mark Fisher, Luce Irigaray, Rupert Sheldrake, Stephen Law, James Le Fanu, Rowan Pelling, Joanna Kavenna, Eva Illouz, and Simon May.

Organisers promise more new spaces and events for 2012. The festival programme includes rigorous and inspirational debates from world-class speakers and live performances from musicians, comedians and DJs late into the night. More than 150 of the world's leading philosophers, musicians, writers and scientists will be joining the festival to investigate this year's theme of 'Uncharted Territories' and getting to the heart of the best and brightest new ideas in contemporary culture.

But it won't all be cerebral. Across five venues there will be more than a hundred live performances, from acoustic songstresses to breathtaking beatboxers.

The first speakers and panelists have been named as Nigel Lawson, Polly Higgins, Crispin Tickell, Bjorn Lomborg, Kevin Warwick, Tim Crane, Angela Saini, Luciano Floridi, and James Lovelock.

Tickets

Earlybird Festival 10 day tickets giving access to all live & night sessions including bands, DJs, comedians and parties are priced at £68. Tickets for the first weekend (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon) are priced at £28, midweek tickets (Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri) are priced at £24, tickets for second weekend (Fri-Sun) are priced at £24. Camping

There is camping and parking available at Tangerine fields which is within a few hundred yards of the festival site. With on-site toilets, showers and added security as well as a Pamper Parlour, the Tangerine Fields site offers you everything you could want for a unique festival experience.
