The first time I’d seen this dare I say it UK mod band and with no album under their belt it would be interesting to see how a crowd would react to a bunch of unknown tunes. They start tight and fast and there’s a good sized audience also interested in checking them out. They play Week in and Week Out and the crowd tap along to it, clearly it hasn’t reached many of the audience before and it’s a varied range of ages. The main thing for me is how young they look. First footballers and policemen now rock bands it's not right kids today are looking way too young, ‘Boys’ indeed!
Their music is pretty standard fare but with a long slot it was bound to be and it takes a while for them to gain confidence. They find it with Talk Talk Talk which has a chugging riff and they connect with the audience who start to move. This song reminds me of The Jam (though this could be down to the Lonsdale shirts) or The Alarm it’s would be a great yell along tune, if we knew it.
They do a blasting rendition of The Specials’ Little Bitch which has all of us old enough to know it singing along. There last track too is a cover of Summertime Blues but all dressed up to the nines.
They have energy but clearly the problem really is we don’t know the tunes and that’s what this kind of music relies on live. But give it a few years and with a beer in hand I guarantee they’ll be my festival faves for a sing along. Bags of potential as they say and they sure are young enough to be around for a while.
