OverviewOZZFEST 2002 REVIEWTuesday 28th May 2002![]() All in all the bands on the main stage were mundane. They only seemed to hold the attention of the people at the front of the audience. Possibly because of the size of the stage and the open vista that is Donnington. The performances appeared laboured and with the temperamental weather, the day began to drag. One minute it was hot and sunny, then in a flash it was raining, and at one point it even hailed. However Slayer, Cradle of Filth and of course Ozzy Osbourne did manage to captivate the majority of the audience. ![]() The facilities were suitably unimpressive, the catering vans were churning out the usual standard of substandard fare and although the tukka didn't seem to be cooked correctly, at least it wasn't still frozen in the middle as has happened to friends on a previous visit here. Another problem was the length of queues. Due to the sheer volume of people (an estimated 50,000) and the poor layout at the back of the arena, it meant that the queues for the toilets, merchandise, food and drinks were painfully long. Ozzy said on Radio 1 that Donnington was the 'Home of Metal' but I say we all move house a couple of times in our life. I'd think twice before returning to Ozzfest at Donnington, give me Milton Keynes Bowl any day. ![]() review by Paul Rodwell / Luke Seagrave photos by Paul Rodwell / Luke Seagrave |
