Once upon a time Biffy Clyro were as unnecessary and as unappetising a prospect at festivals as a dodgy overpriced noodle bar. You know, usually found hidden away amidst the smaller tents, with a few hardcore fans but completely unthinkable for mass consumption.
But this band are proof that if you stick to your guns and plug away, you can make it big. Build it, and they will come, if you like. Three years ago, the idea that Biffy Clyro could waltz onto the Main Stage bill after all the tickets had sold out and STILL inspire scores of t-shirted devotees (and even some banners) to turn up would be crazy, but here we are. From the moment the disco riff of ‘Glitter and Trauma’ erupts into a tidal wave of distortion, you can tell from the rippling of the huge crowd that they really were onto something after all.
