Placebo

Reading Festival 2006 reviews

Monday 4th September 2006

I missed Placebo earlier this year and so I’d pencilled in their main stage performance to see Brian and company in one of my limited visits to the main stage and as the heat of the sun dissipated and people donned their hoodies they took to the stage.

Blimey, you could hear the groan of Brian’s fans as they first spied his shaved head. You could almost hear the sound of hair shears as those who copy Brian’s every hairstyle realised the next step was the bald look.

A huge Placebo banner is waved above us as the band started with their latest material from their new album Meds. Then during 'Drag' Brian's guitar fell silent and he stops the show apologetic that his amp has blown.

The crowd who were actually enjoying it up to that point chatter happily as the band leave the stage and the techies swarm over it. The big screens and the cameramen provide the entertainment as the director hunts for attractive ladies on shoulders and once focused the crowd bay for a flash of their breasts. The tit-fest lasts for some time with loud boos for those few girls who don't want to flash their chest and a particularly loud cheer for a bloke who strips off his shirt.

It's vaguely entertaining if a little male orientated and I have to laugh at the two girls beside me desperately jiggling their breasts and getting annoyed at the lack of interest from the camera.

After nearly a quarter of an hour the band return, but the moment's gone for many who have left to see other acts. Brain and the boys play a storming set by all accounts but I’m away with the crowd to see someone else.
