Retrofest will not be taking place this year. In a statement the festival's founder and creative director Bradley Snelling said "Retrofest 2010 required significant investment for it to move forward and due to the current climate this has not been forthcoming. Added to this is the fact that my business partner Malcolm Cannon and I were victims of Secure Ticket going into liquidation owing us in the region of £300,000 from the festival in 2008. This had a devastating effect on the company and we have struggled since. Both Malcolm and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped make the festival a success but particularly the general public who made this one of the safest and most fun festivals in the UK."
Apart from the loss of box office monies, the festival has been plagued by difficulties. Retrofest 2009 was due to have taken place on Richmond Park (Glasgow Green) but the organisers were forced to move when Glasgow City Council disclosed that the site was contaminated with chromium. With only six weeks to go the festival moved to Loudoun Castle Theme Park where the event was due to take place this year.
