The dates for 2008 are confirmed as Thursday 3rd to Sunday 6th July.
Rock Werchter, situated in the small village of Werchter in Rotselaar,
Belgium, started life in 1974 as a one-day festival, and from 1996 has built
up to a four-day festival. The event plays host to 280,000 fans over the
weekend, or 70,000 per day.
Like nearby festival Pukkelpop standard local bus and train travel are free with your festival ticket. Food and drinks are bought using a ticket system. The camping areas are around a ten minute walk away from the festival site, but they have clean showers for two euros. For those who like to take in the sites Leaven has many beautful historic buildings and is home to the Stella Artois Brewery.
There are two stages and the area is pretty clean, as the organisers have an
incentive to litter picking. 20 used cups gets you a small (the only size
they do) cup of beer or water. There is no drinking water available from the
taps so it is best to take some along.
A number of acts are confirmed, including R.E.M, Radiohead, Neil Young, Moby, Underworld, The Verve, Kings Of Leon, Beck, Babyshambles, Soulwax, 2manydjs, Kate Nash, Duffy, The National, dEUS, Lenny Kravitz, The Chemical Brothers, Mika, Sigur Ros, Kaiser Chiefs, Nightwish, Een Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Counting Crows, Editors, Roisin Murphy, The Hives, Chris Cornell, The Kooks, Air Traffic, Justice, Digitalism, KT Tunstall, Gossip, John Butler Trio, Band of Horses. More acts will be announced over the coming months.
A 4 day pass is priced at £134, and camp-site tickets cost £15.00, regardless of the length of the stay. Camp sites will be open from Thursday 3 July till Monday 7 July in the afternoon. To buy tickets and camping click here.
