The Shoreditch Festival takes place at a variety of venues from Saturday 16th to Sunday 24th August with one of the main events, a free music festival, to be held on Saturday 16 August in Shoreditch Park, London, E2.
It will showcase the area's musical triumphs and innovation in recent years, featuring emerging new acts and musical movements. The themes of sports and arts will go hand in hand at this year's Shoreditch Festival building up to the start of the London Cultural Olympiad on Sunday 24 August.
Highlights include:
Saturday 16 August – 'Welcome to the World' - the Shoreditch Festival opens in party style with activities for all ages in Shoreditch Park: music performances across two stages, children's shows, tea dances, a dog show, sports tournaments and more surprises.
Sunday 17 August – the first ever Tour de Shoreditch celebrates all aspects of cycling with stalls, competitions, guided bike rides around the Borough, bike ballet and extreme cycling displays.
Tuesday 19 August – The Lyrical Lift.
Wednesday 20 August – Make Do and Mend. The best of the Leicester Comedy Festival - On Tour.
Thursday 21 August – Urban Essence with Angika And Ebonessence.
Friday 22 August – the English National Ballet graces the main stage in Shoreditch Park.
Saturday 23 August – the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns for a rousing, open-air Proms in Shoreditch Park performance.
Sunday 24 August – on the historic day that host borough Hackney officially welcomes the Olympics to London, a 1948-themed party on Hoxton Street will look back to the last time the Games came to our capital. A new youth musical and the BBC Big Band will provide a spectacular Festival finale in Shoreditch Park.
Throughout the festival London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) will also introduce The Lift : an innovative and stunning new portable arts venue which will host a high-impact line-up of arts events, workshops and performers.
