Lamb Of God give eFestivals some Willie

Sonisphere 2009 interview

Thursday 6th August 2009

Having left yet another stonking mark on the metal scene with this year's ripping 'Wrath' album, Lamb Of God took to the main stage at this year inaugural Sonisphere festival at Knebworth. eFests teamed up with Komodo and grabbed rhythm guitarist Willie Adler for a quick natter, and things soon went crashing off track. Buckle up, this one's short but most definitely not sweet...

Lamb Of God
Having a good weekend?
Yeah absolutely, it's been fun so far. I didn’t know what to make of it because we left Amsterdam last night at like midnight, so there's been a lot of no sleeping, and I surprisingly feel good. And the show went well, so I'm happy.

How has it been touring without Mark [Morton, guitarist and imminent father]?
I support Mark, he's got a baby. I assume he would do the same thing if I was in that situation. I'm waiting to hear if this baby’s been born, we're all sitting on pins and needles because he's part of our family. That's the way it is, man.

Can we expect him to be back in time for the next tour?
No no, he's not going to be back in time for the next tour, and I don't expect him to. He's got to stay with his wife and his newborn, and I would do the same fucking thing. We'll be doing the States in the fall with Metallica, then the Pacific rim in December, then we'll probably do February back in Europe.

Do you think that Wrath has helped Lamb Of God break the UK?
I dunno, you tell me! I have no concept of what Europe thinks about us. It seems like every time we come over here it just gets better and better. But I don't know what album's responsible for that. I know that the more you saturate something, the bigger the response seems to get. In the States we've toured so many fuckin' times that every man and his brother knows who Lamb of God is! The more we come over here, the more we saturate it, the better we're gonna do.

You have to have something good to put out there though...
Absolutely. If you're pushing a shit album... Take Limp Bizkit for example. Who knows why they are on this fucking festival? They're a shot band, fucking shit. I wish we could stick round a bit and join Machine Head. We'd fuckin' beat the shit out of all those [Bizkit] dudes!

What do you think of the whole furore surrounding Machine Head's position on the bill?
I'm glad they came back on. They just didn't wanna open up for Limp Bizkit, and I agree with them. I wouldn't wanna open up for Limp Bizkit! They've been out of the scene for so long, I mean, who cares? Who cares about Limp Bizkit? Is that crowd interested?

So you don't support Fred and co. then?
No! Fuck those dudes! Fuck that band, and fuck all the people who work for that fucking band!

You must be sick of getting asked all the same questions. Is there anything you wish we would ask you about?
Yeah, maybe just simple questions like, "What do you really enjoy doing on the road?" What's my favourite food, when do I call my wife... Maybe sit down and ask what music I like, what movies I like... Instead of, "What's it like to work with Metallica? Do you like touring with Slayer? What do you think about Limp Bizkit?" *laughs*

So what do you think about British food?
British food sucks dick! *laughs*

What's the worst?
Hey, I don't mean to be an asshole... It's like, if I order a burger, you guys fry it! You fry it in the deep fryer! And then you cover it with mayonnaise!

But mayo is the food of Gods!
I'm not saying I hate mayonnaise, I love mayonnaise! But you guys cover shit with mayonnaise. So you can't taste anything else -it's the English and their mayonnaise thing!

Well we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Cheers Willie!
Thanks, it was good talking to you!
