Sunday sees an immensely popular, touching set from Elbow
T in the Park 2009 review
Wednesday 15th July 2009
Back at the Main Stage, Guy Garvey and Elbow are nearing the close of a set packed with giant, heartfelt indie anthems. The tribal-like chanting of 'Grounds For Divorce' blasts out over a massed crowd, fuelled by its deep, dense, undulating bassy rumble and fuzzed-up guitar riff.
A sweet interlude follows as the whole band gather and huddle closely together, like brothers in arms, around the keyboards, for a gentle, quietly-performed 'Weather To Fly', with Garvey clearly relishing the falsetto croon "are we having the time of our lives?" with the sun having broken through the clouds again and dozens of flags fluttering elegantly in the breeze.
The evocative strings of 'One Day Like This', a true summer festival anthem, signal the final song of their immensely popular, touching set.
At this point rumours start to sweep across the site that Main Stage headliners Blur may have to, or already have pulled out of their performance. Graham Coxon is said to be in hospital with food poisoning and later an announcement is made warning of the possibility of their non-appearance, with Snow Patrol's supporting set pushed back an hour to give Coxon time to appear.
