Morcheeba came to the V2000 festival with a new-found confidence. Their latest album, 'Fragments of Freedom' has been selling well in the shops and they have had some successful festival performances - particularly of their new songs.
The core band of Skye singing vocals, Paul Godfrey on decks and Ross Godfrey on guitar were joined by a big band: drums, backing vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion and trumpet. They played the mellow sounds of Morcheeba brilliantly while we all sat in the sun and chilled out.
They cranked it up a bit for 'Be Yourself' and tried to get the crowd singing for 'Part of the Process'. The crowd was too chilled out at the back of this large arena though, and Skye had to rely on the committed fans at the front to sing along. The sounds of 'Trigger Hippy' got the crowd moving more though and the single, 'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day' brought huge applause.
The band finished their set with the old Donovan classic, 'Season of the Witch' as Skye went through introductions of the band. It had been an all out mellow experience - something you expect from Morcheeba, but their confidence showed when they played their more up-beat new songs to large audience recognition and acclaim.
