The festival focus is on popular classical, but a wide ranging programme is offered which in the past has included heavy rock and folk music, songs from the musicals, through to weighty classical organ pieces.
Line-up
The opening Saturday brings hundreds of musicians at numerous locations throughout the town centre with 'Market Place Music', culminating in a 'Top of the Pops Dance Band Special' with dance band Contrast and a licensed bar serving real ale.Monday brings Portsmouth Baroque Choir with a programme of popular American music including John Rutter's 'Feel the Spirit'. On Tuesday there is Havant Clarinet & Saxophone Choir II followed by soprano soloist Polly Burford and friends. On the Wednesday it's the turn of the Hampshire Police Choir. Thursday is Guitar Night with Douce Ambiance & Hampshire Guitar Orchestra. On Friday the Portsmouth Cathedral Choir will provide the entertainment.
The final Saturday features a 'Last Night of the Proms', all the atmosphere of the real thing with former Royal Marines Bandmaster Don Lloyd and the Meridian Wind Band.
With around 50 concerts all together, taking place throughout the day and evening all week, Waterlooville Music Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.
