Top 5 of Glastonbury 2014

My top five would look something like this:

1. John Grant - simply stunning, and I was pretty much front and centre. Great moment when the guy from the Rabbit Hole ran on and gave him a carrot too - just took it in his stride and had a munch!

2. Vintage Trouble - after the storm. The couple of songs they played acoustically were a real moment. What a voice that guy has! I wouldn't usually waste Glastonbury spends on a CD but for the first time ever I felt obliged to buy their album - great spirit and a great performance.

3. Deltron 3030 - not even spoilt by Jamie Cullum. That's saying something!

4. Daptone Super Soul Revue - new found respect for Charles Bradley, who I wasn't that fussed about before the festival, and MISS .... SHARON ... JONES!! was predictably fantastic. Not even ruined by the dickheads with umbrellas AND hoods when it rained. Her song about her battle with cancer was absolutely wonderful.

5. Nitin Sawhney - I've wanted to see him for years and he didn't disappoint - played almost everything I wanted him to, and even took some crazed bloke pinching his guitar in his stride!

Regrets:

Not seeing Melt Yourself Down. Couldn't drag myself back up to the Park for their Crow's Nest gig on Saturday, and was so broken by the Sunday afternoon that I couldn't face the inevitable dance along. Will have to catch them some other time.

Pretty Lights wasn't as good as I thought he'd be. On record he's got his subtle moments and there's some great sampling - live it just seemed to be 'turn it up, pump out the bass'. May as well have been Skrillex up there, and it bored me a little after a while. He did, however, true to the name, have very pretty lights!

Best yet for me - loved every minute!

No particular order...

Massive Attack- had been put off going to see them having heard reviews of them being dull live but had a last minute change of heart and wasn't disappointed. Dark and by no means a run down of their most well known songs but perfect for me. Helped by the fact I was between two great groups of people (I was on my own).

Bonobo - exceeded expectations and now looking to see him again at Ally Pally in November.

Deltron 3030 - again exceeded expectations

Hip Hop Karaoke - not an act as such but a very good and funny experience.

Saturday night Heaven stage @ Shangri La around 3am - not so much the music but the atmosphere and the fact that everyone was absolutely on it :)
