freeak
I did check everything out around bands though... I saw most stuff... The only thing I missed was an Introducing band and Arcadia in action. I saw the whole thing, but I wouldn't go just regardless of acts. ESPECIALLY SEEING AS I HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE CAR PARK FOR 2 HOURS WITH A BREAKDOWN.
Yoghurt on a Stick
Apart from one little hiccup(*) I thoroughly enjoyed the festival from start to finish. This was despite only seeing Blondie sing Atomic and Kasabian sing one of their songs. I also didn't get very far from our campsite - the furthest we walked was from Top Webbs Ash to the Acoustic tent. I also didn't eat any nice food like I had intended to. So to conclude I saw and heard fuck all, ate shite, but still had a thoroughly good time. I did manage to get to the Wednesday meet up which was very pleasant, and it was good to put a few faces to the people who post on here. (*) - the hiccup came about when me and the wife accepted the offer from her son (my step son) to take what turned out to be rather mind bending acid. We had just got to the acoustic stage when my wife got the fear and had a bit of a breakdown which caused her to start crying. I then tried to talk her down but failed. I was just looking at her and realised nothing I was doing was helping her. This realisation then caused me to start crying. So if any of you saw two middle aged people holding each other and crying like babies at the Acoustic tent, then that was probably us. We have both now decided to knock acid and mushrooms on the head. Oh, one more good point was meeting another efester at our campsite (sorry S but I can't remember your efests name). It's a long story how we came to connect but I'm glad we did as he is a top bloke.
Yesiamaduck
Still think overall 2009 was my first and best festival but this one has trumped 2011 for me. Despite 2009 being my favorite overall 2014's Wednesday was one of the greatest days of my life, great weather and incredibly smooth sailing to get in and around the site. Finally catching the Bonfire was fantastic and stumbling across a campfire sing song afterwards near the Tipi fields was beautiful. Saturday was also incredible. The weather was fine, for the most part, it got a bit much Saturday morning and it made my Growler really soggy I was very hungover and was pretty miserable by the time I got to West Holts for Reverend Peytons Big Damned Band. But it was a great show and the decision to spend the entire weekend in the Circus and Cabaret tent was a stroke of genius. Top that off with a good Manics set, a way better than expected Pixies set and an Incredible John Hopkins set Saturdays weather did fuck all the ruin my day. The weather on Thursday and Wednesday was fine, Friday as well (to an extent) it was only Saturday AM where I thought 'I wish the weather would fuck off already) other than a short spell the site was easy to traverse and as a result the weather didn't bother me. Great festival as usual. The crowd seemed a lot more friendlier than it did in 2011 and the camping site I was in was pleasantly quiet and very friendly. Yesiamaduck
But most everyone I've spoken to has said "really?" after my enthusing. It takes allsorts.
kalifire
Musically I don't think I saw anyone disappointing all weekend - Warpaint aside
CaledonianGonzo
Had a an absolute whale of a time, but easily the patchiest in terms of the bands. Last year I didn't strike out a single time on the music choices but this year there seemed to be a lot of very average performances. GuitarManDan15
This year was ok, not as good as last but still pretty good Music highlights were charles bradley, temples, interpol, paolo nutini and royal blood Getting caught in the electrical storm was a thoroughly miserable experiences but luckily it was the only real horrific rain that weekend. Very glad i still caught FTP after we'd changed clothes. Got to say the crowd this year, in my opinion, did it's best to ruin my experience. Blanket brigade and chair crew gets worse every year and some of them are thoroughly awful people. One person hurled mud at me and called me a c**t, in front of kids, because I touched the edge of his blanket before dolly parton with my muddy boot even though I apologised. The pillheads were rife this year and 90% of the bands I saw everyone around me had pupils like dinner plates, gurning like a good'un and chatting shit instead of watching bands. It was really bad for paolo as I guess people were there to get a good slot for skrillex. Lots of them walking like zombies all over the site too. A decent year but not a great one, undecided on next year but mystic meg phoned and said it's likely i wont be having a lie in on the first sunday in october
Mouseboy11
Did anyone watched Mik Artistik over the weekend? Saw him in the Rabbit Hole and he was hilarious, in complete stitches. Had never heard of him before so was a pleasant discovery. After rocking up to tents at about 3am that night we were then told to shut up because we couldn't stop shouting "PLASTIC FOX!" Digi
But the absolute highlight of the festival was Yoko Ono. She sang songs of peace, love, hope and defiance, with Yo La Tengo as her backing band. I found it utterly devastating. I think I was on the verge of tears for the whole thing. CaledonianGonzo
Absolutely gutted I missed her - I really really REALLY wanted to see Yo La Tengo. I'm tempted to get tickets for End of the Road just to see them!
Digi
A different Glastonbury for me this year after splitting from my husband just before ticket day back in October, but a great one all the same! Twas me and my 18 year old son, and a group of friends we camp with up in Baileys (which I only found out its called this year!). We made shit loads of new memories Wednesday is always the best day for me - the goosebumps never fail to come when the tent is pitched, a few ciders have been drunk, we've had a quick kip and then its out for a wander around the site - the walk down is always anticipation filled I thought the place held up with the rain and it wasn't really THAT bad! I managed to stay upright anyhow which is very different to the mud of 2011 which had me on my arse a fair few times I'm not sure whether I actually DID see more bands this year than I usually do - that might be a result of spending so much time with minime. Highlights for me weree The Pixies - I've waited a long time to hear Debaser live. I also thought the Manics before them put on a pretty great show and I was surrounded by the nicest people for both bands which makes SUCH a difference. Courtney Barnett up at The Park on Friday blew me away. Blondie were great for a mass singalong although I thought the sound was a bit ropey. The Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra were great yesterday afternoon for a dance. In fact, I don't think I saw a shit set over the 3 days! I also didn't seem to encounter as many knobheads this year. Yep, loads of people tweeting and facebooking and loads of teenagers joining hands whilst the one at the front has their hand in the air (what is THAT all about?!) but live and let live! The greatest thing I learned this year? I have a fucking amazing 18 year old who is THE greatest company! Yeah, I'll be up at stupid o'clock on a Sunday morning in October! rivalschools.price
Was very very drunk yesterday but still managed to get to work by 9am this morning(I live 16 miles away), quite proud of myself. Brilliant time though. Only just recovered from Download, Roll on Reading.Yee hah.
whisty
Last 2 years I didn't enjoy much and thought I'd reached a zenith but this year was as good as any of the 7 I've been to. Missed almost every band I had to see, mostly getting there for the band before who I'd dismissed from a yutube preview at some point over the past weeks and enjoyed so much I just moved on without waiting. One of those was Deltron 3030, good stuff. I like a bit of rain & mud, brings people together.
rivalschools.price
Anti-Flag were great last night. Why don't they book more punk bands? Anti-Flag stuck out like a sore thumb on the bill. For a festival that prides itself on diversity it's amazing how large genres like Punk(and of course Metal) get overlooked.
ninetyeightytwo
I say this as someone who loves experimental music and sitting here with 2 other people who also like experimental music. When I told them someone on this forum liked it they went 'really?' I saw some people in the front loving the shit out of it though but most of the crowd looked really really really bemused. And as I say I expected something Experimental but it just didn't click with me at all, to the extent I'd say it was one of the worst gigs I've ever seen. Amii
It was okay. Don't get me wrong it was still superb, but I took my Dad along this year and it was incredibly hard going at times. Desperately needed some space come Sunday. Also started to get really pissed off with the sheer number of morons doing everything to excess - a girl threw up on my feet during Black Keys, and the rest the acts were ruined by a 'WHOOOOSH' noise from thousands of balloons during every damn set. Incredibly distracting, and seeing people walk off from their area and leave hundreds of silver canisters behind was a disgrace. No problem with drugs/alcohol, but some festival-gooers need to learn their limits.
Trebor
Had a great time but after many years it's time for a break, and I really mean it this time!
Gnomicide
It definitely makes my top four. Highlights included the mighty fine people of Camp Ralph, the equally fine people of eFests I met at the meet (I'd like to apologise now for the amount of bollocks I was no doubt spouting as FACT!) and some other fine people I met while waiting for bands and around the sight. Musically I saw plenty and no real duff sets apart from the odd one when I got their early for someone else (I'm looking at you Lana Del Ray - man alive she needs to cheer up a bit). Some great random moments; The washboard player from Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band smashing up her instrument a-la Pete Townsend at the end of their set on West Holts, a man having his beard shaved off by Bramble FM only to be left with a Hitler mustache for the rest of the weekend, a lesson in how to cook your own food when staying in a hotel room, a choir surrounding people - blindfolding them - then singing a beautiful song, a circle pit in Leftfield and a cock shaped cloud. The weather was a pain in the arse but the sight coped very well. Bad things, apart from Debbie Harry's dancing just the one. There was a lovely bloke from Yorkshire at the front for Metallica and he had a USA flag which he thought would be a nice welcome for the band. Some lads bearing a cross of St George flag took offense to this and kept knocking his flag with their's, yelling at him to take it down and rounding that off with a rendition of God Save The Queen. Bizarre behavior in itself but during Nothing Else Matters, they decided to physically wrestle the thing out of his hands. A fight nearly ensued but when he squared up to one and inquired in his best Yorkshire accent "Do you want some, pal?" or words to that effect, they backed off. Arses. Fake Encore
They really need to sort the walk ways out on that corner where the beat hotel is coming/going to the John Peel.....stick a barrier down the barrier and keep to the right sign. At one point it took 20 minutes to go over a bridge, with a pile head high of sawdust in the way and a truck trying to pull out...........later on with d***wands trying to push, it was getting a little worrying. kids etc. Apart from that, I thought it was super. Dolly had the biggest audience of any gig I have ever seen in my life (I think).
