Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, Pharrell Williams, and more
Tuesday 12th December 2006
Princes William and Harry have announced a celebrity concert to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Happening at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 1st July, the concert will feature Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, and Pharrell Williams. Also, to reflect Diana's love of dancing and musicals there will be an appearance by the English National Ballet, while Andrew Lloyd Webber will stage a medley of songs from his West End shows. The princes said more acts were coming but had released just "a flavour" of those confirmed.
Tickets - priced at £45 - go on sale at 9am tomorrow (Wednesday 13th December). Proceeds from the concert will go to a number of charities that were supported by the princess during her life, and to two of the princes' own charities, Centrepoint and Sentebale.
Announcing the concert Prince William said: "We both wanted to put our stamp on it. We want it to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted. We wanted to have this big concert full of energy, full of the sort of fun and happiness, which I know she would have wanted. And on her birthday as well, it's got to be the best birthday present she ever had."
