Festival Republic snap up another part of the Reading site
Thursday 4th October 2007
Festival Republic (formally Mean Fiddler) have purchased a further 65 acres of their Reading Festival site, meaning that now almost all of the site (a total of 191 acres) is in their possession. The festival acquired the Little John's Farm part of the site back in 2005.
This 65 acres was put up for sale earlier this year, with the then-owners thought to be asking around £5 million for the plot. However, that price was based on it being suitable land for development, and this summer's floods proved beyond doubt that it wasn't.
Festival Republic managing director Melvin Benn told the Reading Evening Post: "This is a very important piece of land to the Reading Festival and acquiring it was essential for the continuation of the festival in Reading."
The first details of the acts playing Reading Festival next year are likely to be announced sometime next March.
