Camp Bestival announces the first acts

Flaming Lips, Chuck Berry, & more

Monday 3rd December 2007

The new Camp Bestival, which will happen at Lulworth Castle in Dorset from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July for 10,000 people, has announced the first acts.

The headliners are The Flaming Lips, and Chuck Berry, along with live performances from Suzanne Vega, Billy Bragg, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, The Cuban Brothers, Florence and The Machine, King Creosote, Ladyhawke, The Wurzels, Scroobius Pip, Fence Records Collective with The Pictish Trail, Found, and Beardyman presents Battlejam.

Alongside those are DJs Andrew Weatherall, Kevin Rowland, Rob da Bank, Idjut Boys, Greg Wilson, Queens of Noize, Maurice Fulton, Mungos Hi Fi, Gregs Greats. More acts will be announced over the coming months.

Says Rob da Bank "I've been after the Lips since we started Bestival and for one reason or another (most seeming to involve childbirth!) I’ve never managed to book them. But now we couldn’t be more chuffed to have Wayne Coyne and his bunch of merry men headlining our new show Camp Bestival!"

Camp Bestival is not just about the music. It's a full camping experience, tailored for families and kids of all ages who are just as happy lolling about in their own camp whiling away the time or getting stuck into one of the many options for fun and entertainment – from Come Dancing dance classes, knocking up a scarf in the world’s first Knitting Tent, storytelling around campfires, performing your own Spoken Word on one of the open stages. There's also a comedy stage, films on the castle, theatricals, kids entertainment and more

Tickets are on sale, priced at £120 for adult weekend camping, £60 for Child (aged 13 to 15 on 18/07/2008) weekend tickets, with children under-12 free (but require a ticket), and campervans cost £50 per vehicle. To buy, click here.
