Camp Bestival announces more acts and entertainments

The Imagined Village, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip & more

Tuesday 5th February 2008

The new Camp Bestival, which will happen at Lulworth Castle in Dorset from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July for 10,000 people, has announced the more acts.

They are The Imagined Village, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jongs, Eliza Carthy, Eliza Doolittle, Ebony Bones, Black Kids, Cock N Bull Kid, Kitty, Daisy and Lewis, The Melodica, The Melody and Me, David E Sugar, Gideon Conn, Jon Hopkins, The Melodica, The Melody & Me, Imperial Leisure, and Rachael Mary.

The Camp Bestival (surely Bestival was camp enough already?) has also added more DJs for festival goers entertainment. They are DJ Krust, Gilles Peterson, Gaz's Rockin' Blues, The Shellac Collective, and One Deck and Popular.

As well as the entertainment Camp Bestival has revealed a second stage, the intriguingly named The Insect Circus Stage & Museum which promises mad circus shows and trapeze mania amongst all the music.

Festival goers are asked to join in with the festival spirit and bring a cymbal, trombone or sousaphone for the Saturday to be part of the The World's Largest Marching Band headed up by the Bestival Ukulele Orchestra and Masters Of The Kazooniverse.

Underbling & Vow and their singalong Cockney knees up with Mickey The Fingers on piano and Rosie and Rosie are confirmed as appearing nightly. Cake and cream addicts will be hurrying to join the Dorset Cream Tea Appreciation Society. For kids and adults alike there is Physics In The Field with mini science experiments and physics demos - educational as well as fun!

For the night owls late night unplugged sets are promised at the Campfire Sessions. Talking of fires, Joe Strummer, a self confessed camp fire fanatic will be remembered alongside the charity Strummerville which will be breaking new music, building campfires and bringing a lot of heart and soul to Camp Bestival – see www.strummerville.com for more info.

The headliners are The Flaming Lips, and Chuck Berry, the third headliner is to be announced shortly. The performers already confirmed include Suzanne Vega, Billy Bragg, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, The Cuban Brothers, Florence and The Machine, King Creosote, Ladyhawke, The Wurzels, Fence Records Collective with The Pictish Trail, Found, and Beardyman presents Battlejam.

Alongside those are the Camp Bestival DJs Andrew Weatherall, Kevin Rowland, Rob da Bank, Idjut Boys, Greg Wilson, Queens of Noize, Maurice Fulton, Mungos Hi Fi, and Gregs Greats. More acts will be announced over the coming months.

Camp Bestival is not just about the music. It's a full camping experience, tailored for families and kids of all ages who are just as happy lolling about in their own camp whiling away the time or getting stuck into one of the many options for fun and entertainment – from Come Dancing dance classes, knocking up a scarf in the world’s first Knitting Tent, storytelling around campfires, performing your own Spoken Word on one of the open stages. There's also a comedy stage, films on the castle, theatricals, kids entertainment and more

Tickets are on sale, priced at £120 for adult weekend camping, £60 for Child (aged 13 to 15 on 18/07/2008) weekend tickets, with children under-12 free (but require a ticket), and campervans cost £50 per vehicle. To buy, click here.
