Newcastle's Evolution announce acts for May Bank Holiday

CSS, Reverend And The Makers, Duffy, and many more

Thursday 21st February 2008

CSS, Kate Nash, Reverend And The Makers, Duffy, Lightspeed Champion, The Streets, New Young Pony Club, and Does It Offend You Yeah? are some of the names on the bill for Newcastle's Evolution Festival, the biggest music festival in the North East of England. Tickets are £3, a donation in aid of Water Aid.

Evolution 08 will help raise much needed funds for Northumbrian Water's adopted international charity WaterAid – the official charity of the festival for the third year running. Alistair Baker, Northumbrian Water's Communications and PR Manager said, "Evolution this year will save the lives of thousands of people in Africa. Northumbrian Water is proud to be part of this vibrant and important music festival and delighted that its adopted international charity WaterAid is the event's official good cause."

A crowd of of over 60,000 is expected to attend the Evolution 08 outdoor show at Spiller's Wharf and Baltic Square on the Gateshead quayside on Monday 26th May. Doors open at 12pm and the music finishes on both outdoor stages at 11pm.

Confirmed artists for the Spillers Wharf are The Streets, Kate Nash, Reverend And The Makers, Duffy, Glasvegas, Lightspeed Champion, The Whip, and This Ain't Vegas.

The line-up for the Baltic Square stage is CSS, New Young Pony Club, Crystal Castles, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Hercules And The Love Affair, Who Made Who, The Ghost Frequency, and Kenevil.

On Sunday 25th May the Baltic Square Stage has the Southern Fried Mobile Disco hosting DJ sets from Armand Van Helden, Audio Bullies, Caged Baby, Leatherhead, Nathan Detroit and Jam Warm. Tickets for this event are £23.

A selection of special events, to be confirmed, will be held in the days leading up to this fantastic finale at The Sage Gateshead, Digital, Carling Academy Newcastle and The Cluny will also form part of Evolution 08.

Evolution 08 also includes a series of completely free music seminars, developed by music development agency Generator to offer support to musicians and those working in all aspects of the music industry.

Festival Director Jim Mawdsley said, "We are again extremely proud to put together such a diverse and exciting programme for Evolution this year. This event is without doubt the biggest music festival in the North and is a massive celebration of both our musical heritage and prominence on the world stage. It is only left for everyone to enjoy the whole weekend of gigs and events."

eFestivals supports Wateraid. WaterAid works in 17 countries providing water, sanitation and hygiene education to some of the world's poorest people.
