Glastonbury Festival have revealed more details about the advanced ticket scheme which for the first time in its history sees the Festival offering 'early bird' tickets six months before the event, when a set number will go on sale on Sunday 5th October 2008.

UPDATE (31/7/08): despite the info in the next paragraph having been sourced from Glastonbury Festivals own website, one of our Festival contacts very well placed to know these things informs us that the details in the following paragraph are not 100% correct. We hope to have further details in the next week or two which should clarify things.

Britain's best loved festival which takes place from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June 2009, with the site open from Wednesday 24th June, will be offering registered ticket buyers a chance to either reserve up to four tickets six months earlier than normal for a £50 deposit or buy them outright. Those that reserve their tickets must pay the balance on the ticket at any time up until the final deadline of Sunday 22nd March.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis stated, "We have come up with a scheme that will allow people a much longer period to plan and pay for their tickets, while still continuing the battle against ticket touting. I'm very pleased to announce that by paying as little as £50 up front this year, our registered customers from all over the world will be able to guarantee a ticket for next year's event. At the same time, the very successful registration scheme will ensure that tickets will only go to those named individuals who have reserved them in advance."

Many Festival goers who registered earlier this year already have their all important registration number for both 2009 and 2010. Those who have not registered will be able to register for the first time between Monday 1st September 2008 until Saturday 4th October 2008. There will be another chance to register after the first day of sales, when registration will re-open from Monday 6th October 2008 all the way through until Sunday 22nd March 2009, allowing everyone the chance to register and buy a ticket when the remaining tickets go on normal sale in April 2009.

The final number of early tickets available, the confirmed weekend ticket price for Glastonbury 2009, and the full details of the advanced ticket scheme will be announced on Monday 1st September. This will also be when details of how to purchase supplementary tickets for the Festival - such as child tickets, car parking tickets, caravan and campervan tickets, coach tickets, and tipi tickets - will also be explained.

Payment methods for buying tickets will remain the same for the 2009 Festival as they were for 2008. The £50 deposit will be payable by debit card only for UK festival-goers, while payment by credit card will be acceptable from those travelling from outside the UK.

Glastonbury Festival 2009 will play host to more than 2,000 performances at 50 or so venues including music, cabaret, theatre, circus, and also has a fantastic Kids area, poetry, green crafts and information and loads, loads more.
