first act confirmed for Glastonbury Festival 2009winner of last weekend's Rockstar competition announcedMonday 8th September 2008 The first act has been confirmed for next year's Glastonbury Festival which runs for five full days from Wednesday 24th June until Sunday 28 June 2009 across a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset. The winner of the finals of the Rockstar unsigned competition, backed by the Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis, was decided on Friday 5th September. The winners were announced as Liverpool based Major Major who have won themselves a chance to play a live set at next year's Glastonbury Festival. Major Major were the last of the six finalists in the competition to take to the stage. They were very well received by the crowd and soon after their performance they were crowned the competition winners. As winners of the competition they will also play a live set at the Pilton Equinox Party on Friday 19th September, and have a two week recording session in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios.
Registration does not reserve or guarantee you a ticket when they go on sale at at 9am on Sunday 5th October, but if you don't register you will not be able to buy a weekend ticket for Glastonbury Festival 2009. All registered festival-goers will have two options. They can either buy a full weekend ticket at a price of £175 (plus a booking fee of £5). Alternatively, tickets can be reserved at a cost of £50 per ticket. The balance will be payable by Sunday 1st February 2009. With both these options, the number of tickets available per transaction to registered customers has been increased to six.  Glastonbury Festival will play host to more than 2,000 performances at 50 or so venues including music, cabaret, theatre, circus, and also has a fantastic Kids area, poetry, green crafts and information and loads, loads more.
