90% of tickets sold for Glastonbury Festivalfestival organiser Eavis announces at Green World AwardTuesday 20th January 2009 Glastonbury Festival founder, and organiser Michael Eavis, confirmed as he picked up an award for environmental work at the Midem music conference in France, that 90% of tickets for this summer's event have been sold.
The Worthy farmer told the BBC, "You'll be amazed when you hear the headliners we've got coming this year, and we've already sold 90% of the tickets for this year already. We've got four headliners at the moment. If they all confirm, then I've got two headliners for Saturday." Eavis went on to explain the reason the acts had not been revealed was because the stars have tickets on sale for their own summer shows across Europe, and because acts play play Glastonbury for "very little money", they are given the chance to sell their own tickets before the festival line-up is announced. He added that he was hoping to confirm a "big American act" shortly, but had been unable to because he was being honoured with the Green World Award in recognition of his commitment to preserving the environment. The award recognised the Festival's history of environmental fund-raising and ecological initiatives. The festival raises money for Greenpeace, Oxfam and Water Aid, and last year the event had the the eco message "Love the farm, leave no trace" and included biodegradable tent pegs, rubbish recycling, and compostable beer cups. This year's Glastonbury Festival runs throughout the five full days from Wednesday 24th until Sunday 28th June 2009 at Worthy Farm, Somerset. There are still tickets available to buy now for Glastonbury Festival 2009. All registered festival-goers who want to buy tickets have two options. They can either buy a full weekend ticket at a price of £175 (plus a booking fee of £5). Alternatively, tickets can be reserved at a cost of £50 per ticket. With both these options, the number of tickets available per transaction for registered customers is now unlimited - as long as each purchase (or deposit) is matched with valid registration numbers. Those without internet access can apply for a registration form (enclosing an SAE) to Glastonbury, PO Box 2445, Glasgow G40 9AG. The ticket price includes includes a FREE programme, a useful cloth bag, and small around the neck guide. Car parking tickets can be bought at the same time and are priced at £10 per vehicle, and campervan tickets are priced at £65 per van.
