Glastonbury Festival hopes to move year out to 2012festival organisers want to avoid Olympic clashThursday 22nd January 2009 Glastonbury Festival is hoping to take the Olympic year off, rather than the intended year of 2011, to avoid a clash with the sporting event.
The farmer revealed that they are hoping to extend their current licence and have their next year off in 2012, to avoid a clash with the Olympics. Mr Eavis said, "The thing is we've got the Olympics happening in 2012 so they'll need everything like all the loos and all the security and all the trains. It's a job to get enough trains now and we need more trains because we're trying to increase the public transport to Glastonbury. So we have decided to take 2012 off." The Festival currently has a licence until 2010, but the organisers are hoping the local council will agree that the proposed change of date will makes sense. Mr Eavis added, "Of course, it will be Mendip Council permitting, because we've got a licence until 2010 at the moment". The Festival organiser was also asked by The Western Daily Press about the current rumours concerning the line-up. He replied, "Most of the rumours already out there are pretty good, I must say. Not necessarily all of them, but most of them are good." Although he wouldn't confirm of deny whether eFestivals' predictions of Bruce Springsteen, Blur, and Neil Young were true, when their names were mentioned. He did reiterate that he had a fourth headliner up his sleeve. Mr Eavis asserted, "There's one missing out there that is a really good one that people haven't latched on to yet, so I'm very pleased about that. It's good to have one surprise." He also ended rumours of Madonna making an appearance, adding, "No, that's not a good one". The Worthy farmer recently confirmed that 90% of the tickets for this year's Festival had been sold already, he added that he expects the remaining few will not last long, and the idea of putting the tickets on sale in the autumn and allowing people to spread the cost had been a success. This year's Glastonbury Festival runs throughout the five full days from Wednesday 24th until Sunday 28th June 2009. There are still tickets available to buy now for Glastonbury Festival 2009. All registered festival-goers who want to buy tickets have two options. They can either buy a full weekend ticket at a price of £175 (plus a booking fee of £5). Alternatively, tickets can be reserved at a cost of £50 per ticket. The balance must be paid by 23:59 on Sunday 1st February 2009. To buy Glastonbury Festival tickets, click here. With both these options, the number of tickets available per transaction for registered customers is now unlimited - as long as each purchase (or deposit) is matched with valid registration numbers. Those without internet access can apply for a registration form (enclosing an SAE) to Glastonbury, PO Box 2445, Glasgow G40 9AG. The ticket price includes includes a FREE programme, a useful cloth bag, and small around the neck guide. Car parking tickets can be bought at the same time and are priced at £10 per vehicle, and campervan tickets are priced at £65 per van.
