Kid Creole and the Coconuts to headline Camp Bestivalplus amazing son et lumiere extravaganza finaleThursday 30th April 2009 Kid Creole and the Coconuts have been announced as the Friday night headliners at this summer's Camp Bestival.
Sunday night at Camp Bestival is going to go out with a bang, and a grand finale with a huge son et lumiere extravaganza planned. Uk pyrotechnic innovators The World Famous will team up with Rob da Bank on decks, and the English National Ballet to create a great audio-visual spectacle. According to the press release, and this is seriously surreal, "It will begin with the castle illuminated with strobing white flares, silver fish will swim in the sky, fired from massive cakes on the roof, the castle will turn red as noisy crackling fountains erupt, the pace drops and goes slow and dreamy, performers swing waterfall units around their head, gentle cascading spirals of silver intertwine with the music before high pitched whistles shoot from the roof and the whole shebang climaxes with a multicoloured celebration of music and fire. Jeepers, it's gonna be pant wettingly good." There's also a new initiative for 2009 Folk Idol with 10 folk singers and bands battling it out on the Bandstand on Saturday afternoon in the Kids Field. There's three available slots still up for grabs. The only rules are you have to cover an old folk standard and wear a fake beard (or a real one if you've got one). To enter acts needs to head over to www.myspace.com/folkidol, make friends and then say that they would like to enter the Folk Idol competition at Camp Bestival. This year's line-up includes PJ Harvey performing her only UK solo show, Mercury Rev, Chic feat. Nile Rogers, Bon Iver, Candi Staton, Will Young, Florence & The Machine, Roy Ayers, and Laura Marling, Goldie Lookin' Chain, Frank turner, VV Brown, Roots Manuva, dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip, The Cuban Brothers, Ebony Bones, Dub Pistols, Beardyman, Chase & Status, MC Rage & Plan B, Drums of Death, and a host of DJs including Erol Alkan, Rob da Bank, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, DJ Yoda, Andy C & MC GQ, Aeroplane, High Contrast, DJ Derek, Gilles Peterson, Scratch Perverts, Trojan Sound System, Skream, Sombrero Sound System, and Fear of Theydon with many more also still to be announced. Tickets are available to buy in full now, an adult weekend ticket is priced at £130, with a child ticket (aged 12 to 16) priced at £65, with children under-12 free (but require a ticket), and campervans cost £60 per vehicle. There is a 'Family Weekend Camping Ticket Deal' which offers 2 adults and up to 4 children aged 15 and under tickets with camping for £295. An adult day ticket (16 years+) with no camping is priced at £45 per day, and a child day ticket (aged 12 to 16) is priced at £22.50, with children under-12 free (but require a ticket).
