Latitude announces more arts and entertainment

authors, performances, shows, theatre, Jonny Woo and more

There's a host of new arts additions announced for this summer's Latitude Festival held in July at Henham Park Estate, Suffolk.

In the Cabaret Arena will be home to Ida Barr, The London Swing Dance Society, Dusty Limits, Kalki Hula Girl, Sarah Louise Young, and Miss Behave.

There will also be a twisted recreation of TV show 'Dallas' called 'Stark Dallas Naked' with cult performer and drag act Jonny Woo, alongside Timberlina, and David Mills. The latter two also host a 'Good Morning' TV programme styled show on the last night of the festival called 'Good Morning, This Evening'.

Plus Ward & White's Karaoke Circus, the Sounds Familiar Quiz and Musical Bingo with songs instead of numbers.

The new entertainment for festival goers includes in the Literary Arena fashion dame Vivienne Westwood will be reading from her manifesto 'Active Resistance to Propaganda', Sir Peter Blake will be in conversation with Mark Ellen, plus authors Patrick Neate, and Hardeep Singh Kohli. New to the festival this year is The Literary Salon hosting discussions and workshops. Chris Meade will host a salon discussion on the future of the book in the digital age called if:Book.

In The Woods will be performed an extract from Faeries, a Royal Opera House commission by Will Tuckett. The family show will use a combination of puppetry by Blind Summit Theatre, dance and storytelling.

The Film & Music Arena will see composers Molly Nyman and Harry Escott present some of their music to Latitude audiences.

Nathan Jones, and Wave Machines bring their collaborative performance project'Wave If You're Really There' to the Poetry Arena alongside Aidan Moffat (Arab Strap), Daljit Nagra, Ventriloquist, and members of the Writers' Centre Norwich.

The Waterfront Stage, the one in the lake wil play host to DanceEast performing 'Les Moutons' , and Riccardo Meneghini's 'Spun.

Finally, the Outdoor Theatre will have 'La Prima Donna' a new audio-visual performance installation by Hellcat Productions featuring the characters from Caryl Churchill's 'Top Girls'. Five Victorian heroines battle the 3D surround sound. The piece combines choreographed dance, performative gender and period-shifting costume. The piece features live DJing through state of the art 3D surround sound technology invented by the Illustrious Company.

They are the latest additions to an extensive bill of acts headlined by Pet Shop Boys on Friday, Grace Jones on Saturday, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on Sunday. Other acts playing over the weekend include White Lies, The Pretenders, Flashguns, Squeeze, Mew, Ladyhawke, Teitur, Bat For Lashes, Spiritualized, Magazine, Newton Faulkner, Doves, Editors, Gossip, Turin Brakes (acoustic), Belle & Sebastian (DJ set), Music Go Music, Hjaltalin, Little Boots, Band Of Skulls, Yes Giantess, Sugar Crisis, Dear Reader, Catherine A.D., Jonathan Jeremiah, Alan Pownall, First Aid Kit, Sound Of Guns, Golden Silvers, Slow Club, Post War Years, The XX, Pulled Apart By Horses, Joe Gideon & The Shark, Dag For Dag, 2 Hot 2 Sweat, The Late Greats, and The Chakras. Latitude takes place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th July 2009, with the festival opening it's gates on Thursday 16th July for some limited non-musical entertainment. Latitude festival goers can expect music, art, comedy, film, literature, theatre, performance art, dance, sculpture, workshops, restaurants and waiter service bars.

Weekend tickets are on sale and are priced at £150, day tickets are priced at £60, and a campervan Pass is priced at £10. Children aged 12 or under will be eligible for free tickets for Latitude Festival 2009 when accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
