eFestivals exclusive: Levellers hint at Glastonbury Festival appearance

frontman Mark Chadwick reveals band are 'in discussions'

Tuesday 3rd November 2009

Mark Chadwick frontman of the Levellers has revealed exclusively to eFestivals that the band are in discussions to appear at next year's Glastonbury Festival.

Levellers (2)
Mark Chadwick, speaking to eFestivals as part of a forthcoming interview, said, "We're hoping to play it next year, I believe because it's part of the 40th Anniversary they want to bring back bands who have headlined it over the decades. I'd obviously like to play it. Hopefully, we're going to be on the Pyramid Stage but we'll see, we have no idea, it's in discussions."

Next year's event will mark the 40th anniversary of the Music and Arts Festival at Worthy Farm, Somerset, where farmer Michael Eavis first opened his gates for business in September 1970. Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis has been quoted as saying, "It's our first 40th anniversary next year, we're talking to lots of bands at the moment about that, and we want to have a band from every year on the Pyramid stage over the weekend."

Levellers headlined the Pyramid Stage on the Friday in 1994. You can read the full interview with Mark Chadwick when it is online here shortly.

Only one act is confirmed so far for the Festival, but as usual eFestivals will bring you the very best-sourced rumours, allowing festival-goers to see who is playing long before the bands are formally announced - keep your eyes on the Glastonbury 2010 rumours, updated as we receive information.

Tickets have sold out for next year's Glastonbury Festival which runs for five full days from Wednesday 23rd until Sunday 27th June 2010 across a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset. There will be no more tickets on sale until sometime early in 2010.
