Perth and Kinross Council have agreed to keep T in the Park at its present site for the next three years.
Earlier today DF Concerts had their licence application agreed at a special meeting of Perth and Kinross Council licensing committee. The Scottish music festival first started out at Strathclyde Park, and has been held at the disused airfield in Balado since 1997.
Early bird tickets for this year sold out within hours of their release, and whilst overall capacity has not been increased from this year's 85,000, it has been agreed for campsite to have an increased capacity, allowing 5,000 more people to camp at the festival.
The campsite which opened on a Thursday for the first time in 2008 will now cater for 25,000 people on the Thursday evening and 70,000 from the following night.
Festival orgganisers will continue to provide entertainment on both nights to discourage T in the Parkers spilling out into the surrounding areas. The report considered by councillors, stated,
"The 2010 event will be broadly similar to past years and feature a wide selection of bands, entertainment and catering venues. It is intended to continue to open the campsite from Thursday preceding the event.
This is one of a raft of measures aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the run-up to the event by extending the arrival period which has enjoyed some success as part of the traffic management plan for the event.
The applicants advised the council that, following the relative success of the earlier opening of the campsite in 2008, and again in 2009, it was considered that an additional 5000 camping ticket sales on the Thursday would build on the successful measures introduced to avoid repetition of the 2007 widespread road traffic congestion by removing more day visitor vehicles from the equation."
T in the Park will happen at Balado from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th July with festival goers able to expect a line-up of around 180 artists to play over 11 stages. Kasabian are the only act confirmed so far for 2010. Early bird tickets are no longer on sale. More tickets will become available later in 2010.
