Broadstairs Folk Week 2010

In the parks, pubs, gardens, beaches and promenade; musicians - from the highly professional to the inexperienced amateur - get together in impromptu sessions whilst Morris dancers, Appalachian clog dancers, rapper sword dancers and many others demonstrate their skills on the streets and along the prom all week long in Broadstairs, Kent.

Acts confirmed are Show Of Hands, Ade Edmondson & the Bad Shepherds, Martin Simpson, The Demon Barber Roadshow, Chris While & Julie Matthews, Charlie Dore & the Hula Valley Orchestra, Mawkin: Causley, U.N.I.T.E - Gathering Of Strangers, Transglobal Underground, The Shee, Tom McConville Band, Pama International, Tickled Pink, Colvin Quarmby, Dogan Mehmet & The Deerhunters, Bruce Mathiske, Chris Sherburn & Denny Bartley, The Ram Company, Boka Halat, Tim Edey and Isobel Crowe, Rachel Harrington with Rod Clements, and Wheeler Street.

Tickets

Early bird season tickets are available priced at £160 (£205 with camping) for adults, £54 (£76 with camping) for children (aged 7 - 16 years), unders 7s are free, day tickets are £29 for adults, £12 for children. A weekend ticket (7th,8th,9th) is priced at £79 for adults, and £35 for children. Under 7's are free. Tickets for individual events will also be available. About the festival

Broadstairs Folk Week has grown organically – Pierremont Park in the middle of the town became a focal point for the Folk Shows and many other elements of the festival that are still in place today began in the late sixties and early seventies. The festival has had time to grow and develop in its own time and soon turned into the annual invasion of folkies which has become a highlight of the year – both for local people and visitors.

Camping

There is a campsite which will be open for Season Ticket holders for an additional charge, open from 10.00am on Friday and closes at midday on Saturday. The level campsite has Posh Wash showers and nice toilets within a short walk of all venues.

Other entertainment

As well as the event festival goers can also enjoy 7 sandy beaches, an Italian ice cream parlour, pub sessions, singarounds, and Shooting Roots.

Fund raising

Broadstairs Folk Week is an independent organization – a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee that depends on a combination of ticket income, public grants, commercial sponsorship and individual donations from the Friends of Folk Week and other fund-raising such as collections on the street to exist and to stay in the town and not become a green-field site festival outside of Broadstairs.
