30th April 99
Someone mails us to say Reef, Tom Jones, Ed Rush and Optical and probably Hole will play.

28th April 99
Someone has mailed us some info, claiming to be from a music industry source that "got it right last year":
Friday - REM, Beautiful South, Hole, Bush
Saturday - Manic Street Preachers, Underworld, Texas, Ash, Joe Strummer
Sunday - Skunk Anansie, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Lenny Kravitz, The Corrs, Al Green
Someone else has mailed us saying that The Foo Fighters, Placebo, Gomez and Liam Howlett will all play.

26th April 99
An email received from a very well placed source says that Otway is to appear in the Cabaret Tent on Saturday afternoon (with Richard), and again on Sunday afternoon with Attila the Stockbroker. We guess that means that Attila will do a solo slot as well.
The Observer had a small piece yesterday saying that "the organisers have taken the unusual step of publicising the line-up". They then publicise the line-up (which may not actually be correct) saying that acts include R.E.M., Manic Street Preachers, Blondie, Underworld, the Corrs & Texas. They also say that Fatboy Slim, Air & Orbital will play the Dance Tent.

21st April 99
NME.com has published a wildly inaccurrate list of what it claims is "the full line-up" on their website.
A reliable source tells us that Ash told her they would be playing.

15th April 99
NME.com are reporting that a reformed Dodgy are to "launch themselves in the public eye at Glastonbury in June".
Someone tells us that Hole will be playing.
A few people have said that Reef are playing.
Another says Tom Jones is to play.
Again, we're told that Kula Shaker are telling people that they'll be there. But they said that last year too....! :-)

13th April 99
The Banco De Gaia website at http://www.banco.co.uk/ is reporting that they will be headlining the Avalon Stage on the Sunday night.
Someone tells us that the Black Crowes will be playing.

11th April 99
NME.com are reporting that Shack are to play "the second stage" (whatever that means....I guess they mean the Other Stage) on 26th June.
Someone tells us that Super Furry Animals are playing.
Banco De Gaia is reported to be playing the Avalon Stage on the Sunday night.

8th April 99
The website has been named "Website of the Week" in, we believe (because we haven't actually seen a copy, and have only been told 3rd hand), the Source entertainment supplement with the Sun newspaper.
It's been reported to us that Roy Harper is to play the Avalon Stage on Saturday evening sometime.

4th April 99
The Guardian ran a small item yesterday saying that the Manic Street Preachers have apparently turned down £1,000,000 to play the Reading Festival, whilst agreeing to play Glastonbury for £100,000.
In an interview in DJ Magazine, Underworld say that they'll be playing 2nd on the bill to Manic Street Preachers on the main stage on Saturday night.

1st April 99
NME.com has mis-reported the information from this website's "leaks" page, saying the list is confirmed, and also mis-labeled this website as "semi-official".
NME, in an interview with Noel Gallagher, quotes him as saying "we're not doing Glastonbury". In the same issue Regular Fries say they will be playing.

28th March 99
NME.com is incorrectly reporting that the licence restricts numbers to 10,500 - the correct figure is 100,500.
They are also reporting a whole host of bands are are playing - REM, Orbital, Mogwai, Mercury Rev, Ash, Joe Strummer, Tindersticks, The Beautiful South, Al Green, Freestylers, Underworld, Super Furry Animals, The Manic Street Preachers, Hole, Cast, Ash, The Cardigans, Chemical Brothers and Roni Size. They also say that Marilyn Manson also looks likely to play.

A Blondie website is tentatively suggesting that they'll perform on 25th June.
This weeks Melody Maker indicates that Marilyn Manson could be playing.

16th March 99
In an interview on Planet Sound on Channel 4's Teletext service (March 10th) Travis said that they would play this year.
Last weeks Melody Maker it said "SKUNK ANANSIE have confirmed that they will be headlining the main stage at this years Glastonbury Festival on the Sunday night"
On GLR on Saturday (13/3) Dodgy said that they were planning to finish their mini tour at Glasto 99.
Apparently there's a strong rumour circulating band managers in the US that Paul Simon is "very, very likely" to play the Sunday p.m. Pyramid slot.

Aloud.com is reporting that the June issue of Select Magazine, which comes out on 1 May, will reveal this years line up.
Elsewhere, with a reformed Stone Roses looking ever more likely, rumours are circulating that they will play.

On the 8th February NME reported a source saying it was "totally unrealistic", but now they are reporting that Oasis are likely to play.

Latest rumours: Orbital will play last thing Saturday night somewhere, also believed to be appearing include Ben Harper, Courtney Pine, Freestylers, Baka Beyond and The Headhunters, who will play the Avalon Stage

Beth Orton said on TV that she would be playing.
A rumour going around the Black Crowes web chat page says that they'll be appearing at Glastonbury this year.

Someone has sent information regarding articles in Swedish papers saying that Dodgy are to reform for a one-off performance on the main stage on the Saturday.

a newspaper in Hamburg last weekend announced as a headline on their music pages that Oasis are playing Glastonbury ... don't know where they get their information ....

Rumours sent to us by people out there say that 808 State, Bare Naked Ladies & Weapons of Sound will play.

NME have again published a list of rumoured bands.
They say R.E.M., Manic Street Preachers and The Beautiful South will be the headliners, also playing will be Hole, Placebo, Fatboy Slim, Super Furry Animals, Air and Gomez.
They also report the rumours circulating on the internet that Oasis will play, and then quote a "band source" as saying this is "totally unrealistic".

We've just heard from Otway "Hopefully we'll be doing Glastonbury again thos year" - a regular Festival act, John, sometimes accompanied by the superb Big Band, and other times performing solo, or with Attilla the Stockbroker, appears in the Cabaret Tent, and some years the Acoustic Tent.

Information supposedly heard from the lips of someone who should know says that R.E.M, Radiohead, Placebo, The Egg and the Chemical Bros are playing.
This person also claims to have heard from the lips of an even better source an implication that the Rolling Stones are playing.

Kula Shaker said on Italian Radio today that they might play at Glastonbury. However, their website was last year reporting that they'd play, which turned out to be untrue.

Someone claiming a family connection to the Butthole Surfers says they are going to play.

Someone claiming friends in highish places says that Julian Cope and Prodigy are to appear.
Past history casts doubts that the Prodigy will be there.

23rd January 99
Having revisited the NME website, the page mentioning Glastonbury has now changed. The Rolling Stones have disappeared from their list, which just about kills off the rumour that they were to appear - also disappearing from their line-up is Radiohead.
They say R.E.M will headline Friday, Manic Street Preachers Saturday, and The Beautiful South on Sunday. Also mentioned are Hole, Fatboy Slim, Super Furry Animals, Air, Gomez and Placebo.

Another report has come in that Oasis are going to play.
A good source says that The Residents are going to be there.

R.E.M. are pretty much confirmed, after Michael Eavis told N.M.E. that the rumour is 'pretty good'.
Other names tipped by N.M.E. are The Rolling Stones, Placebo and Radiohead.
The article also states that the line-up won't be announced until in the programmes on site.

People seem be getting their info from strange places.....
crystal balls are saying many names, many who are probably right, but we can all make educated guesses, and a clairvoyant is telling another to expect the appearance of Ben Folds Five, someone says Elvis is alive and well, and someone emailing from a school in Essex says that the Butthole Surfers will play.

One person is mounting a concerted campaign to convince us that the original line-up of Pink Floyd will play. We don't believe him!
Tofu Love Frog's are reported to be playing - it would be unusual if they weren't.
Someone claiming to have inside information - but he's not known to our contacts - has told us that Foo Fighters and Ned's Atomic Dustbin will play.

It has been reported to us that Metallica are unlikely to be playing the Festival due to other commitments.
N.M.E. have again mentioned the likelyhood that R.E.M. will play.

Websites and mailing lists based around the band are reporting that Depeche Mode will play.

18th December 98
The Bristol Evening Post has reported that "There is speculation .... Oasis and The Beautiful South ... will appear at next June's festival."
This is probably one of the most accurate sources of information available before the release of any official listing (it certainly was last year).

Michael Eavis has said that "the Festival did not have room to place the Rolling Stones at Glastonbury 99 even if they wanted to be there".

Loads of rumours are being sent to us about Roxy Music. Apparently, they are to reform with a line-up that is to include Brian Eno, they'll record a new album, and they'll headline one of the nights at Glastonbury '99, as well as touring generally, including the Royal Albert Hall.
The line-up is reported to include Brian Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy MacKay, Paul Thompson & Mel Gaynor as well as Eno.
