Having escaped from the front row of Cypress Hill relieved to have camera and head still intact, Counting Crows were a bit of light relief and, judging by the huge sing-a-long that accompanied their set, it went down very well.
Having enjoyed August And Everything After and been a bit non-plussed by everything since, it seemed that the band agreed, the majority of tracks coming from this one album. The real surprise, however, was their version of Live Forever. Played at a slower pace, their version highlighted the Gallagher brothers' song writing skills and, equally, what a shame it is that this abililty has been overshadowed by the fact they are a pair of complete tossers. Of the Crows' own stuff the clear winners were the obvious Mr Jones and Round Here which was played after a dreamy guitar intro at near ballad speed to great effect. Duritz and the boys finished a little weakly on Hanginaround, the only song from This Desert Life and quite rightly so.
Overall it was a really enjoyable set and a brief rest ahead of the night ahead. However, unless the Crows get their act together for the next album we will probably listen to the same songs next time, or maybe they won't be invited at all.
