This was my fourth year in a row at Glastonbury festival and I have to say that the best thing about it was the weather. After enduring the two years of horrendous filth and mud for the sun to shine is to me the beauty of the festival. 1999 was the first I had been to Glastonbury in the sunshine and the vibe from people was brilliant, the sun certainly bought the best out in people.
As for this year I think people took the glorious weather for granted and the vibe was gone. There are so many wonderful things to see at the festival but I felt this year that people were there just for the top name bands. This is not a bad thing as the bands are there for people to enjoy but come on, there are so many other things to see and experience.
I spent all my time this year in the green fields where people seem to have a better grasp of what the festival is all about. The few times I did venture into other areas of the festival I was appalled at what I saw. There was filth everywhere, a complete lack of respect for the festival and the land which it is held. I am even more appalled that people chose to ignore the wishes of Jean Eavis' that we keep the site tidy. I am aware that rubbish is inevitable but I saw many people throwing litter on the ground without even considering looking for a bin. I know that the litter pickers are there to clear up but I do not feel that to think about your own actions is that difficult. I did enjoy the festival in my own way but will not be there next year I would rather spend time with people who care about small issues such as respect for other people and the land. Perhaps I will go again in the future but hope that people learn to appreciate the beauty that could be at glastonbury.
