Flaming Lips
New Bands Tent
23:00 Saturday 24th June 2000

In all that Glasto madness, we forgot about poor ol' Fran Healy….sorry Fran, the Flaming Lips won out. We saw them do their thang at the New Bands tent…
New Bands?!!! What?! They've had more albums than all the falafels in the Greenfields…

Flaming Lips

It was the third time I'd seen Wayne and co play in the last year, I've only just written another review of their Festival Hall gig. I suppose I should be suffering Lips over-exposure by now, but they give it something new each and every time. You've probably heard all about the mad back-projection. The weird films that play along to their experi-mental music in obscure harmony. But could you ever have been prepared for watching Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, La-Laa and Po dancing about behind Wayne's haunting vocals?! Only at Glastonbury could you have believed the sight of the Teletubbies and Flaming Lips in one tent together…

Flaming Lips

The atmosphere was warmer than a winter night by the fire in your toe-socks. The tent at the top of the hill, overlooking the rest of Worthy Farm gave the perfect setting. The whole thing passed far too quickly, and once again we enjoyed hundreds of balloons, bouncing over our heads throughout She Don't Use Jelly. The Lips never disappoint- they give you everything you want to hear.

Flaming Lips

Wayne's sentimental words to the audience summed it all up…

"I hope you are finding all the drugs you wanted to find, and having all the sex you want to have. And if not, well, there's always tomorrow…"
