This is it..... it gets off to a great start, with no more rain beyond a couple of drops, so NO mud. The threat of rain has evapourated, and the site has remained at its best.
The strangest thing this year is the how quiet it seems... there don't seem to be as many people here as last year, and those here are providing a beautiful chilled vibe.
Things got off to a smooth start, with no delays in the getting going. The new Pyramid Stage is providing a better view of the bands for those out front, and the day saw The Wailers, G-Love and Special Sauce, Live, The Bluetones, Cypress Hill, Counting Crows, the as expected "special guest" appearance of Macy Gray, and Chemical Brothers taking the stage to give a visually stunning but somewhat "cold" performance.
The Other Stage saw a strange mix of music, and drew a big crowd for Moby.
The Jazzworld Stage had Groove Armada, who went down a storm... asking around, those who saw them seem to have it as the highlight of yesterday.
Elsewhere, the Glade was near-enough empty during day-light, whilst in the New Bands Tent there was a mix of dedicated fans and others sleeping on the floor. Junkie XL and Eat Static put in lively sets, and Nick Warren played some old favourites in the Dance Tent, which while full still gave plenty of space to shake yer bootie.
Bodger and Badger gave a full 1 1/2 hours of mashed-up mayhem in the Kidz Field, proving that there are ways to get your kids to eat their vegetables.
A lot more obvious all night activities are around this year, with the best of the bunch being the "better than you think" camera shop on the main markets, giving ravers the chance to go flat out till 6am Monday morning, giving Joe Bananas some competition.
Miniscule of Sound proves that some of the best things come in small packages, with a big queue for entrance. With sounds a mixure of drum and bass and old skool ska, this made a nice change to some of the predictable tunes from elsewhere. The Bouncers were enforcing a "dance to get in" policy, but luckily there wasn't one for footwear.
The atmosphere remains good tho very chilled, but with crime levels reported up on last year.
Talking of crime, festival hats are still in this year. Toilets are surprising pleasant, with legends of the past being blown away.
We'll have full reviews of some of the acts online next week.
We'll have a report of Saturday online before midday Sunday (we hope...).
