Radio One DJ Zane Lowe’s band are playing in the main arena as we make our way up to watch the football, and join the masses watching the match facing the big screen, with our backs to the stage.

Looking at the stage, occasionally I can’t really work out what Zane does, he’s prominent on stage in his red shirt but it’s the rest of the band who are providing the musical accompaniment to the match. It’s actually really good guitar based rock. Perfect for the sunshine, although the fact we hear Australasian voices so rarely in our music I can’t help but think of Midnight Oil and Men at Work (yes I know they are Australian but can we really tell their accents apart?) although fortunately they sound much more like the former.

They’re able to see the football on the screen at the back too, and don’t seem unnerved by the fact they are playing to the backs of people’s heads. The Kiwi accents, the tropical guitars, the heat, the carnival colour and blue skies could fool anyone into thinking that we are in the South Pacific only the park’s native flora around the edge of the arena spoil the illusion.
