Hyde Park Calling 2006

Saturday 1st to Sunday 2nd July 2006
Hyde Park, London, W2 2UH, England MAP
£42.50 for each day, or £80 for both - on sale 9am Friday 10th March

Tracks like ‘Summer Son’ and ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’ get lots of the ladies in the crowd dancing, but Sharleen Spiteri is obviously not happy that we’re all facing away from her. When she asks if the crowd are ok, hardly anyone replies, as we’re glued to the final throws of the football.

The music provides some sort of backdrop to the proceedings and Charlene does her best to irritate the hell out of us. Saying even before the nervous tension of penalty shoot outs that she’s wearing black as it goes with the mood and adding that there’s too many Neanderthal men with too much testosterone more interested in a stupid game. What a way to win an audience! Not!

Once England’s exit is assured the crowd dissipate in droves, heading for solace in the bar or heading for the Second Stage to catch a muted performance from the Lightning Seeds who take to the stage late as they’re watching the game too.
