There’s a new shout in the campsite that grows popular, well not a shout a whistle the theme music to the Carling advert where they play football - The 5,6,7,8's - Woo Hoo. Well it’s catchy and better than ‘Bollox’.

We arose to an air horn at an ungodly hour and packed our tent ready for the journey home that night. Still gloriously sunny but I was phased and adjusting to the festival so much that I can remember little else than the football, you know the outcome already but suffice it to say it went from a brilliant time of singing, happiness, quips, clapping a cheering on the big screen to silence.

Incidentally a special mention goes to the tie dye family in purple and their home made matching shirts, especially customised for the festival in fact customised shirts to show support for England were also the order of the day.

Talking of shirts I notice that the merchandise stalls are no longer selling this year’s IOW shirt but instead last year and the year before – despite them saying Rock Island and some happy punters pass me wearing the Crew’s shirts for the festie that they are chuffed to have got hold of.

We also find the shopping area hidden away across the back, good news for us because it means we can get away with being tempted to buy any shiny things. It’s at this point I realise I’ve not been to the Bacardi bar, but after visiting the picnic area for a snack I forget about it as it’s at the back of the arena and I spend my time at the front.

Fortunately Bowie lifted us with huge tunes and the fireworks accompanied by Isle of Wight legend Jimmy Hendrix’s All Along the Watch Tower is moving. The night sky booms and set car alarms in the surrounding are off, bringing a smile to my face. The festival has left its mark and for a moment I wonder what it would be like if it had rained.

The ferry was late leaving, we drove with heavy lidded eyes home through fog with only Virgin radio’s re-coverage of the weekend to keep us awake. How we did it I’ll never know but we got home, sunkissed and dirty to tired to change and collapsed for a brief few hours sleep before work.

Remind me next year to take the Monday off!
