Embrace enter to a standing ovation, the arena is now looking packed and as ‘Ashes’ bursts from the PA (never was there a more apt song for a band) the crowd around me start bouncing. They’re used to playing live and to festivals and to having huuuge anthems and the crowd lose it as they thrust straight into ‘All You Good Good People’ IOW has lift off!

Embrace’s sound is driven, pounding and soaring it’s the stuff of festivals, the very lifeblood and I’m so glad they’re back after so long away. ‘Someday’s slow tempo atmospheric bassline has the crowd clapping to the beat and slowly envelopes us as a few drops of rain begin to fall, thankfully the occasional drop of moisture is a relief on sunkissed skin.

Embrace follow it up with the Chris Martin (he of Coldplay) collaboration ‘Gravity’ and now we’re hitting uber-festival territory. Their talents at writing their own stuff are demonstrated with ‘Looking as You are’ which is dedicated by singer Danny McNamara to all the pretty girls. It’s very slow and possibly even a lost love song.

They get us all up and jumping with another festival monster ‘Come Back To What You Know’ and we’re all singing our hearts out. It’s followed with another anthem ‘Save Me’ that gets everyone up and bopping, Embrace at their best. This perfect set has to be concluded somehow and they choose to finish with the tender ‘A Glorious Day’ apt or what?
