Another day of hit and miss weather, with menacing clouds following your every move. After chilling out by the Pimms Village green and watching a mass wedding, it's over to unfortunately catch the end of These New Puritans, a horrible band that should not have played any stage here, let alone the main stage I think it is because they are local to the area).
Next up though are Nada Surf. After a break they are back, but choosing to ignore their tracks from 'High/Low' like 'Popular', and focusing more on new tracks like 'Weightless' and 'Inside Of Love', which we are all asked to dance and clap in unison to. "It'll look like a fucking Queen video!" states singer Matthew Caws. They are joined by Calexico's Martin Wenk on Synthesizers and trumpet. 'Blankest Year (Gonna Have A Party)' is quite fun; the crowd are asked to participate in singing "Fuck It!" a lot...
The Foals are another band I feel are over-hyped, but their crowd is huge. 'Cassius' is dedicated to Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, who started a fight with the band the previous day in Spain, and nearly stopped the band playing here today (what a shame). I'm sure he had good reason...
The Breeders on the other hand are a band I always have time for. Some may think they are sloppy with tier delivery, but sisters Kim and Kelley Deal are honest and have fun onstage, and this passes infectiously to the crowd. Kelley is learning the violin ("The dog leaves the room when she picks it up!") and makes a good job of playing it here, as well as singing in Spanish to 'Regalame Esta Noche'. 'Night Of Joy' is a good track, but the crowd are here for 'Last Splash's', 'Divine Hammer' and of course 'Cannonball'.
After a quick glimpse at Nick Cave in Grinderman I rush over to the Uncut Arena, and am far too late to catch any real look at Blondie during her set. The tent is rammed, and the sound is not carrying well to the outside. Getting a little look at the screens, Blondie looks great and is performing really well to hits like 'Maria', 'Call Me' and 'The Tide Is High'; in fact it is a set rammed like the tent with hits. A bad decision was made here to put the band in this small stage; they should have been on the main stage.
Headliners Interpol are doing nothing for me so it's over to the Tindersticks in the Uncut. After the rain during Blondie and not being able to sit down neither band is sounding great to me, and after yet another downpour I make it back to my tent to rest for the long drive home, after a quick nip into The Woods, which keeps me awake for the next 3 hours anyway.
