This years Leeds festival line up was certainly looking rather dull on paper, it took a lot of effort for me to be slightly enthusiastic about any of the bands after seeing the line up in numerous magazines and websites.

So upon arrival and after pitching my tent amongst the vast sea of canvas in the hot midday sun on what can only be described as the hottest day this year!! I was happy to just sit in my tent until Sunday and just catch the Red Hot Chili Peppers, that’s how bad this line up was judging by the listings.

Razorlight

However I was persuaded to stop being an old git and go and see bands that I wouldn’t normally go and watch... so I grabbed the line up list and decided to see which bands I would normally not even bother with.

Its only looking back now that I can appreciate how great the festival really was, it had so many diverse bands on that catered for everybodies taste, I managed to catch bands such as The Enemy, Klaxons, Kate Nash, and even the Kaisers Chiefs played a secret (cough, cough) set.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

On the main stage the bands that stuck out in my memory are Gogol Bordello and Eagles of Death Metal. These two bands made the festival so much more bearable, with their enthusiasm shining throughout their performances.

However with all of the other bands it just felt as if they were purely going through the motions, and although all of the artists performed extremely well, it was one of those weekends where everything ran smoothly and there were no major incidents to make it memorable, ranging from the blandness of Razorlight through to the lifeless Smashing Pumpkins who have a huge talent for making people want to kill themselves rather than listen to another song by them.

Smashing Pumpkins

The weather was wonderful, and unlike the V festival a week earlier there was not a single drop of rain!

In short this festival was superb if you were willing to take a chance and go and catch bands that you wouldn’t normally go and see, sadly if you were there for just the headline acts then you would have come away struggling to remember anything good about this years Leeds Festival.

However despite that, at the end of the day, I had a great time, and as long as I keep having great times then I will always be looking forward to going the following year.
