NAAD Festival of Kathak Dance 2010

NAAD, in line with its vision of 'keeping alive the tradition' is organising a Kathak Dance festival in its pure classical form. The NAAD Festival of Kathak Dance will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June at the Bhavan Centre in West Kensington, London.

About

The festival is in memory of Pt. Jailalji a well known Kathak exponent & doyen of the Jaipur Gharana of Kathak. This is the first time a festival of dance in its pure classical form will take place in the UK.

Line-up

This is a rare opportunity to watch the performance of 8 of the finest UK based Kathak dancers with live musicians. A unique event featuring more than 20 artists on one platform. Dancers from all key Kathak Gharanas namely Jaipur, Lucknow & Banaras Gharanas will be performing.

Saturday: Sarita Kalele, Sonia Sabri, Sujata Banerjee, and Abhay Shankar Mishra.
Sunday: Saberi Misra, Gauri Sharma Tripathi, Kajal Sharma, Padmashri Pratap Pawar.

Accompanying them are tabla musicians Ustad Sarvar Sabri, Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari, Pt. Rajkumar Misra, Sanju Sahai and Shahbaz Hussain. Plus Sarangi & Sitar musicians Surjeet Singh, Baluji Srivastav and Carl Peberdy. Baja, Vocal & Padhant musicians Pt. Vishwa Prakash, Padma Sharma, Sanchita Pal and Chandra Chakraborty.

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
