The Scottish semi-folksters Hobotalk are certainly lucky for their set today – not only is it chucking it down with rain, but they’re at the stage nearest to the campsite entrance (incidentally, the only stage which contains a bar), which ensures that the tent is near full for their performance, and as an experienced band on the live circuit, they launch straight into trying to convert as many people taking shelter in the tent as possible.

Their songs are delicately crafted, but have a confidence and a swagger to them that ensure that the majority of the tents attention is turned to them, rather than buying a pint of the locally brewed ale or the weather outside.

Songs from albums “Beauty in Madness” and “Notes on Sunset” are aired during the short set, and they prove to be haunting as well as stupidly infectious, and nearly everybody has a foot tapping, or their heads nodding along to the music.

Although Hobotalk have never been a name on the tip of the mainstream tongue, it’s certainly not down to the quality of their music, and hopefully days like today where they get a chance to play to lots of people who haven’t heard their music before will change this scenario. They have the songs; all they now need is a mass audience to hear it.
