Gomez

Not Enough Hours In Our Day!

As soon as Ben Ottewell takes the mic you know Gomez have arrived. That gravely voice is instantly recognisable even if it is other 2 frontmen Ian Ball and Tom Gray with their contrasting vocals that perhaps have the stage presence and do most to get the crowd going.

Saturday late afternoon and a reasonable crowd have turned up to see the 5, not so gawky anymore, boys from Southport strut their stuff. The first track is Get Miles and the audience is straight into it. Love them or hate them Gomez are classy musicians and this comes across with their blend of American influenced country/rock. There is something different about them today though. They play a set designed to entertain a festival audience, odd at times but then that's fine with us.

Gomez

Bring It On, Love Is Better Than A Warm Trombone, an extended Tijuana Lady, 78 Stone Wobble next with the audience singing along before launching into the theme tune from Only Fools and Horses which the crowd absolutely loved. Tom Gray acting as spokesman between songs allowing the band members to light their fags and take swigs from their bottles of beer, "We need to get a bit more groovy" he shouted before doing just that. Here Comes The Breeze with a Pump Up The Volume riff in the middle, unorthodox but very enjoyable. A funked up Revolutionary Kind had the audience dancing again and ready for a climaxing end with Make No Sound and finally Whippin' Piccadilly which absolutely rocked.

Gomez

A thoroughly enjoyable set and judging by the reaction most people felt the same. If you happen to be at Reading or Leeds festivals then they are definitely worth a slot in your schedule. They are not everyone's cup of T but here they left us all singing 'there's not enough hours in our day'!
