Wychwood Music Festival 2007

Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June 2007
Cheltenham Racecourse, Prestbury Park, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England MAP
£95 w/e adults with camping, (£75 w/e 12-18 yr olds, students, OAPs, unwaged)

Who put Subgiant up against Afro Celts? They never stood a chance while the band were playing, but they stuck to their guns and slowly managed to fill a tent that was deserted when they started. A real shame as if they’d started with a full tent their performance would have been the stuff of legends. All the same it pretty much achieved it by the end, with the tent filling up drawn in by the trios wizardry on decks and instruments. Live drums, bass and a mass of electronics all spun together to make a dizzying dance beat that really energised the crowd. So much so, I was supposed to be leaving to drive home, but kept running back to catch more, noticing even my sober friends had got happily confuzzled by the Subgiant music-mental spaghetti.

A great act to end the festival, when we left they were still playing, I hope they continued to delight the crowd long into the night to make up for having to start with an empty tent. They did brilliantly to not let it get to them and to draw in a decent crowd even before Afro Celts had finished. Future main stage evening act please.
